As you know, it is the beginning of a new year and as a blogger, I think I would be breaking some kind of honor code if I didn’t write at least one post about my goals and aspirations for the new year. That’s right – this is my RESOLUTIONS post!
It will come as a surprise to absolutely no one who knows me that 99% of my challenges, struggles, goals and plans involve food and family. Why else, given the millions of topics available, would I choose to write a blog about food and feeding of my family? If you’re not excited about food and family, you might be on the wrong website.
So in keeping with that theme, here are my family and food related resolutions for 2017!
Seek out the best and most family-friendly ways to cook every-day meals. This means trying out several ways to cook the same meal or dish. I’ll figure out how best to advise YOU my loyal readers on how to create your own meals faster, easier and make them delicious the first time.
Read and review a new cookbook every month. I’m a junkie when it comes to cookbooks. But some are better than others, so I’ll chose one per month and go through it, choosing strategic recipes to share with you. Then I’ll let you know what I think and if this is a good book for your household.
Grow some veggies. I try to do this every year, and some are more successful than others. There are four raised beds in the back yard that are just begging for tomatoes, cucumbers, herbs and other yummies this summer, so I’ll walk you through choosing and growing the most common (and simplest) veggies for a busy household.
Reach and maintain a healthier weight. You knew it was coming. I need to lose 15 pounds. But that’s not the whole story. I need to tone up, work parts of my body that are ignored by running, do yoga and basically take a whole-body approach to this goal. And that means healthier eating also, which is my biggest challenge, given how much I love food! Yes, I will attempt to run 1000 miles again this year. But that’s only part of the goal. The intensity required to run that much is something I’ve (almost) gotten used to, so I’ll kick it up a notch with some additional fat-burning and strength-building workouts!
Eat foods that are delicious and make me happy. Seems like a contrast to my previous resolution, but I’m here to tell you that healthy food IS delicious and it doesn’t have to be all sweets to make you happy! I hate eating out and not enjoying my meals (looking at you, fast food restaurants) and I try to never get stuck in a rut where I’m not eating a variety of great things. So I’ll be focusing on fresh, healthy and of course quick & easy foods in my weekly menus and in my original recipes.
Collaborate with my friends on foods and family friendly activities that would be of interest to other food-loving families. I have some VERY talented friends, and you guys would all get along great! I’ll introduce you to some of them and we’ll see what we can learn from each other along the way.
Throughout this whole year, I’ll be blogging and bringing you my results here, but also on social media. So please follow and like Not So Picky Eaters on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest! Don’t forget to share your thoughts with me throughout the year. Every family has similar challenges and the more we share our successes with each other, the better we will all be at the end of the day.
Also, I’ll be starting an email newsletter where I can share my menu plans and other interesting stories from my food and family journey. So please sign up below to be included.
Thanks so much – I can’t wait to share more with you this year!
